Description

A collection of alchemy symbols inspired by european late medieval / Renaissance period. Could be used as icons, decor/ornaments in any alchemy/magic themed game. Still under development.

This svg pack includes symbols for:

• The four basic elements of alchemy: fire, water, air, earth
• Paracelsus's "Tria Prima" (the three alchemy primes) :
  • Sulfur
  • Mercury (also known as quicksilver)
  • Salt
• Antiquity's seven classical planets and their respective metal:
  • the Sun - Gold
  • the Moon - Silver
  • Mercury - Quicksilver
  • Venus - Copper
  • Mars - Iron
  • Jupiter - Tin
  • Saturn - Lead

Sources and disclaimer

From a historical point of view, the practice of alchemy evolved with centuries, and symbols evolved with the practice, as new discoveries were made, as new classifications were suggested.

As such, if you do your own research, you might come across symbols that are different from the ones displayed here for certain metals and substances. For this project, I used the alchemy table from Basil Valentine's "Last Will and Testament" (1671) as my main source of information and inspiration.
